How To Overcome Fear of
Public Speaking

There are three things you need to learn about to improve public speaking confidence.

  • Understand the causes of fear of public speaking and learn a few good techniques to help you reduce your speech anxiety.

  • Learn the basics of good speech writing and presentation skills.

  • Investigate all the ways you can practise making a speech because it's the cornerstone of effective public speaking.

The key issue you must address is gaining control of your public speaking nervousness.

The great thing is that there's a whole host of things that you can try to help you:

  • Anchoring - A Neuro-Linguistic Programming technique to help you feel confident and resourceful whenever you need to.

  • Swish - Another Neuro-Linguistic Programming technique that can help you wash away the memories of a bad experience and replace them with a good one.

  • Hypnotherapy - Phobias are often a result of old beliefs that no longer serve you, hypnotherapy can help you find the truth behind them and begin the process of change.

  • Breathing Techniques - Interrupt the progress of your anxiety attacks and gain control of your thoughts at crucial moments.

  • Visualisation Techniques - Learn to imagine and expect a better outcome from your public speaking opportunity.

  • Coaching Techniques - From online speech training to personal telephone coaching you can learn presentation tips from others and develop confidence when making a speech.

  • Medication - If all else fails you can even get medication for your phobia. Treatments are available from your medical doctor (not that I'd personally recommend it).

Next learn how about writing and delivering a speech really well.

When you get up and deliver a well prepared speech it boosts your confidence.

  • The more confident you are the less nervous you'll be...

  • The more confident you are the better speech you'll make...

  • The more confident you are the more successful you will feel...

  • When you make a great speech you'll start to BELIEVE that YOU ARE a great speaker and you'll begin to overcome that phobia of public speaking.

Practise, practise, practise... There's no substitute for it!

In his public speaking books Dale Carnegie said that "the first way, the last way, the never failing way to get good at public speaking is ... to speak!"

I agree completely, that's why Toastmasters works so well. You can turn up each week, each fortnight or each month, how ever often your club meets, and each time you can get up and speak, it may just be for a moment or it may be for several minutes, but either way round every time you speak and you're successful and your audience support you, and in a good club your audience will ALWAYS positively support you, then you chip away at that performance anxiety and gradually improve your confidence and learn the art of public speaking.

I know just how daunting it can be to face fear, overcome it and move on, I promise that you CAN gain control of your nerves and become a confident speaker.

I conquered my public speaking nerves and now enjoy speaking so much that I want to teach others how to speak in public!

In my free public speaking guide you'll find the strategy and tactics I used to get myself through my first few speeches. It tells you how I learnt to be confident and speak with ease in front of an audience.

Good luck, be all that you can be,
